I am an LA based designer, producer, writer, illustrator, art-director, CG artist, drawer, gamer, musician, collaborator, deriver, reorganizer, mild germaphobe, and dad.
My 15+ years in the entertainment industry began as a story artist, concept designer, and CG sculptor. But soon I found myself on the development and producing side (with a good bit of artist talent development mixed in). So for the bulk of my career, I have been a key principal in setting up and running animation productions both domestically and abroad: recruiting, staffing, organizing and leading teams of artists and technicians - all with the requisite entrepreneurial budgeting and strategy. Eventually this gave me the opportunity to also practice my passion (and part of why I got into this biz!). That is developing original characters, worlds, and narratives for interactive, toys, and kids’ entertainment, with a hand in everything from writing, to visual development, to play-patterns, and overarching brand strategies. While I often work on original properties, I have also found a knack for helping other producers develop and find the approach to their ideas as well.
I am a believer that originality is often a creative reorganization and amalgam of things that came before and are floating around in the ether. These new ideas are from no one in particular; they are from everyone, and they just have their time like a ripe piece of fruit. They are just waiting for someone in-touch to seek it out, find meaning in connections, and pick it out of the air. So I think of myself not just a creator, but often times a harvester.
I am a hopelessly nostalgic aficionado of games, toys, giant robots, monsters, spaceships, dinosaurs, Kurosawa, Miyazaki, Spielberg, Bill Watterson, Tinker Hatfield, Shel Silverstien, and Dr. Seuss. And I live to tell elaborate 3-act structure bedtime stories to the 3 kids in my house: daughter Natalie (10), son Wes (8), and Dan (myself always clinging desperately to the kid inside!!!).
